This is a great article listing out how trees are affected by the stressors of climate change. Best of all there is a comprehensive list of popular trees and how they are rated for surviving extreme temperatures (high emissions) or extreme low temperatures (low emissions) of the Chicago Region.
This list was created by the non-profit Climate Change Response Framework and their website is: ForestAdaptation.org. There are assessments for many regions of the US. When considering planting a tree make sure you get one that is rated as Adaptable and can tolerate both high and low temperatures.
